SAINTS POETS NAVIGATORS
Returning to Florence for the holiday season are I mai visti, the exhibitions dedicated to those “never seen before” works that are housed in the Uffizi Gallery, but usually not displayed. Saints poets navigators is the title of the 9th edition of the exhibition, held in the Sala delle Reali Poste, 16 December-31 January in Florence.
The fulcrum of the exhibition is an unknown painting displayed for the first time to the public, the portrait of the Bolognese physician, Alessandro Achillini, a 16th-century work by Amico Aspertini.
The five sections of this show present portraits of famous men in the world of culture, science and history of countries even far from Italy: the curious paintings by Cristofano dell'Altissimo, who copied those by Paolo Giovio on the precise order of Cosimo I, to adorn the Sala del Mappamondo of Palazzo Vecchio.
It will also be possible to see the virtual reconstruction of this hall, just as Cosimo intended it to be realized, thanks to the great work by the Multimedia Laboratory of the Institute and the Museum of the History of Science.
The exhibit also boasts a rich graphic and video system, besides an educational workshop created especially for children.
